Sudanese woman appeals against death sentence - Middle East - Al Jazeera English

It appears there is more to this than I thought. If things are as they say, the Sudanese Shari'ah court may be acting in the wrong, as this lady may never have been a Muslim in her adult life. Merriam Yehya's Ethiopian Christain mother was the wife of a Muslim Sudanese man, who left them during while their child was six years old, according to her lawyers. Some Muslims have said this is an attempt of the Sudanese government to appeal to their conservative Muslim population, which I hope inshaALLAH failed if what has been exposed is indeed the truth. I do not generally like to discuss political and social matters here, but this is one in which faith principals must be understood. Please understand this well: the ruling on apostasy is as ALLAH and his Messenger peace be upon him established it, but this lady Merriam Yehya, if her testimony is true, is NOT an apostate. I am taking no personal stance for or against her, rather I wanted to clarify the matter in light of authentic Shar'ii orthodox.
